Not difficult, not taxing, just good reads to try out..

Leamington Ladies read Where my Heart used to Beat by Sebastian Faulks. They considered it somewhat contrived, and the love story unsatisfactory,  but worthy of reading and discussion

The Gypsy Madonna  by Santa Montefiore  was well-liked by Ex Libris group in Southam. There is a resemblance to Chocolat  in the plot lines and ideas. Not a huge amount to discuss.

Local author Marg Roberts is having success with her book A Time for Peace (set in Serbia during the conflict). She has visited a couple of reading groups in the county, one of which was St Peter’s Pastimes in Leamington. They had a very lively meeting with Marg , found the book tricky initially ( names hard to follow) but by the end, they felt involved with the characters.

If any group is interested in hosting Marg at one of their meetings, then do send me an e mail , and I’ll pass it on ..

Combrook Readers thought The Paying Guests by Sarah Waters, a very good read, atmospheric, with a good sense of place, and very well-written. It generated lots of discussion.

I have read this and would strongly recommend it. It is a book which wraps you in from the very beginning.  Jan
